Beta Pharmaceutical Limited is a research-based biopharmaceutical company focused on the identification, development and commercialization of products and therapies targeting the chemoprevention and treatment of breast cancer.

The Company is working in collaboration with scientists at the College of Pharmacy, University of Louisiana at Monroe in southern USA ("ULM") to develop novel cancer chemopreventive agents using natural phytonutrients, called tocotrienols as treatments for breast cancers. Tocotrienols are found preferentially in palm oil and have been shown by previous scientific research to be potent anticancer agents able to turn on the death pathways for cancer cells and, at the same time, turns off the growth pathways.

Funded by Beta Pharmaceutical Limited, the applied research programme with ULM involving 4 laboratories and known as the Breast Cancer and Health Project has been underway since 2007. Being conducted under the one umbrella in one location and lead by Dr. Paul W. Sylvester, Pfizer Endowed Professor of Pharmacology, College of Pharmacy of ULM, an internationally-recognized leader in nutrition and breast cancer research, the aim of the project is to be in the position to commence clinical trials on chemopreventive treatment products and therapies for breast cancer as soon as possible.

All patents and other items of intellectual property arising from the research programme belongs to the Company according to the terms of the commercial agreement in place with ULM.

Commercial Strategy

Initially, Beta Pharmaceutical Limited wishes – as a result of the Breast Cancer and Health Project – to introduce to the global market following completion of relevant clinical trials a chemopreventive therapy for breast cancer which could be taken on a daily basis and marketed at an affordable price targeted towards the everyday consumer.

When such a product is available, consumers will truly have much greater control in the prevention and management of breast cancer.
