Dr. Paul W Sylvester to Speak at Malaysian Conference 24-26 May, 2009

30th March, 2009

An integrated research programme conducted by Beta Pharmaceutical Limited in collaboration with the University of Louisiana at Monroe in the USA (ULM) has been underway for the past 15 months.  The research project – which is known as the Breast Cancer and Health Project - involves four laboratories in the College of Pharmacy, ULM, and is lead by Dr. Paul W. Sylvester, a world-renowned expert in the anticancer activity of tocotrienols and a specialist in the chemoprevention and treatment of breast cancers in women.  All of the intellectual property derived from the research is owned by the Company and its partner, First Tech International Limited.

Dr. Sylvester has been invited by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) to deliver a paper entitled “Synergistic Anticancer Effects of Combination Gamma-Tocotrienol Treatment with Other Chemotherapeutic Agents” at the MPOC’s annual conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur 24 – 26 May, 2009.  More information about the conference and the speakers can be obtained at http://www.mpoc.org.my/nutn pinc2009.asp

Dr. Sylvester’s work – and that of his co-researchers - on the Breast Cancer and Health Project suggests that tocotrienols can be used to enhance the therapeutic response of other types of traditional chemotherapy, while, at the same time, avoiding high dose toxicity commonly associated with the use of same.

Beta Pharmaceutical Limited focuses on research and development of effective treatments for breast cancers.
